In
1997 I started to explore the creativity that was possible with
clay. I began at the
Burlington Art Centre where the instructors, while encouraging me,
also inspired me to continue with the creative hand of pottery.
I have attended many weekend workshops to learn new
techniques.
My slab and wheel
thrown work is created using a white mid-range (cone 6) stoneware
clay. I make my own clay
stamps after doodling images on paper, typically starting with a
small cylinder shaped piece of clay. Various designs
are carved into the clay as it hardens and then the stamps
are bisque-fired prior to use. I
use various things to create background impressions - leaves,
burlap, bamboo mats, etc. - and then impress with my bisque stamps
to accentuate the piece. Templates
enable me to make consistent sizes, yet each piece is unique, as I
impress, stamp and shape it. I
often use a combination of two glazes which flow over my handbuilt
and wheel-thrown clay forms to create my unique contemporary
designs.
I am a member of
the following pottery organizations and show in their sales:
